Principal’s Message

Welcome to the 2025-26 school year at Rancho Del Rey Middle School!
We are excited to embark on another year of learning, growth, and community-building. Our mission is to create an innovative learning environment that embraces diversity and nurtures every student’s academic and personal success. Dear Rancho Del Rey Families,
It is with great pride and heartfelt enthusiasm that I introduce myself as the Principal of Rancho Del Rey Middle School. My name is Mark Patterson, and I have had the privilege of serving the Sweetwater Union High School District for the past 24 years—as a teacher, Dual Language coordinator, resource teacher, assistant principal, curriculum writer, and parent liaison. Each of these roles has deepened my commitment to student success, strengthened my belief in the power of community, and prepared me to lead Rancho Del Rey with a focus on excellence, connection, and growth.
I am not only an educator, but also a proud member of this community. As a resident and parent, I’ve had the opportunity to see our school from many perspectives—my daughter is a proud Rancho Del Rey alumna. I know firsthand the impact this school has on our youth and families, and I am deeply invested in continuing its tradition of academic excellence and student support.
I approach leadership with curiosity, collaboration, and a growth mindset. My core strengths—input, context, learner, maximizer, and positivity—guide my daily work and fuel my belief that every student has the ability to thrive when supported by a strong, inclusive school community. I am committed to listening, learning, and working alongside our families, staff, and students to create a school environment where all voices are valued and every student feels seen, safe, and empowered.
Rancho Del Rey is more than a school—it’s a community built on relationships, dedication, and shared purpose. I look forward to partnering with you in the year ahead as we nurture curiosity, build confidence, and support every student’s journey toward success.
With gratitude and excitement,
Mark Patterson
