GATE

GATE

The Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program provides funding for local educational agencies (LEAs) to develop unique education opportunities for high-achieving and underachieving pupils in California public elementary and secondary schools who have been identified as gifted and talented. Special efforts are made to ensure that pupils from economically disadvantaged and varying cultural backgrounds are provided with full participation in these unique opportunities.

While GATE funding is currently designated as a Tier III flexible program by the state of California, the Sweetwater District is committed to continuing to provide support to GATE students and parents.

GATE testing for seventh graders is offered once a year. Please check this site often for the announcement of this year’s GATE testing window. Once identified, GATE students are placed in accelerated classes to meet their learning needs. Other programs that we offer include Math Field Day (Ms. Chavez), Knowledge Bowl (Mr. Braito), and the Spelling Bee (Ms. Ahrenstein).
